There are several important Nutrients detailed in the Nutrition Facts (Food) Label. Their importance range from fuel for bodily functions to reducing diseases. The following is a brief summary of these nutrients. 
 
  • Carbohydrates (Carbs)
    • They play a major role in storing and transporting energy,
    • The recommended intake for Carbohydrates is 45% to 65% of your total calories.
    • Fiber
      • Eating a diet high in dietary fiber promotes healthy bowel function. Additionally, a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and grain products that contain dietary fiber, particularly soluble fiber, and low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.
      • Recommend intake is 14grams per 1000 calories.
    • Sugars
      • Added Sugars – less than 10% of your total caloric intake

  • Protein
    • The primary building block for muscle, bone, skin, hair and more.  
    • Recommended intake is about 23% – 26% of total caloric intake.
  • Cholesterol

    • High levels of sodium can lead to serious health conditions.
    • AHA recommends less than 2300mg a day.
