Thermic Effect on Food (TEF) is the energy expended (calories burned) when an individual consumes and digest food.
 
How’s it Used
TEF is often used when determining how many calories you need or burn/expend a day.
 
TEF Formula
  • TEF is typically 5 to 15% of the total calories you burn a day.
  • Generally, 10% is the most widely accepted percentage for TEF
  • You take 10% of the total amount of calories you ate in a day
    • TEF = (daily caloric intake) x 0.1
